Apple has released macOS 27 Golden Gate to the public after several months of beta testing. The update features Siri AI, but there are also Apple Intelligence improvements to many of Apple’s Mac apps. Here are some of my favorites.
Apple’s intelligence in macOS 27
One of the best aspects of Apple’s strategy with Apple Intelligence is how it deploys AI-powered features into system apps across all of its platforms. The Mac is a great example of this, and macOS 27 takes things to the next level.
Photo
There are several new editing tools powered by Apple Intelligence in the Photos app. Spatial Renovation lets you change the perspective of an image after it’s taken, while Extend lets you expand an image along its original edges. There is also a more powerful version of Clean Up for removing objects and people from an image after the fact.
Safari
In Safari, Apple has added several new intelligence features. You can now automatically group your cards by topics. Using the new Notify Me feature in Safari, you can receive push notifications when changes are made to a website. This is great for tracking price changes or restocks of out-of-stock products.
Describe an Extension might be my favorite feature in macOS 27. It lets you create a custom extension for Safari simply by using a natural language prompt.
Shortcuts
Shortcuts can be a powerful way to create automations on your Mac. In macOS 27, Apple has made the process of creating shortcuts much easier. Now you can use natural language to describe the shortcut you want and Shortcuts will create it automatically.
You can also repeat that shortcut using natural language. Of course, you can also create a link manually.
Troubadour
Apple has even added new Apple Intelligence features to the Finder on the Mac. When you name a fold or file, you can now receive suggestions based on Apple Intelligence. Then based on the contents of the document or file, macOS 27 will suggest a name.
Wrap
macOS 27 is available to Mac users everywhere. The update is supported on all Apple Silicon-based Macs.
