Apple is, once again, expected to release Apple Glass by the end of 2027, while also working on a brand new headset that will take the place of the new Meta VR glasses.
So far, Apple’s computing efforts have consisted of the Apple Vision Pro and access to Siri via AirPods. However, you’ll have to wait a long time before you can try out the much-rumored smart glasses that Apple has been persistently working on.
In Sunday’s “Power On” newsletter for BloombergMark Gurman talks about the new Meta VR glasses and Apple’s adjacent work on smart glasses, including Apple Glass. That is, along with other concepts like AirPods with camera sensors and a new fitness band without a screen.
As for smart glasses, Gurman warns that Apple is aiming to release them in some form by the end of 2027.
This reiterates an often raised time frame for smart glasses. In September 2025, Gurman said that Apple Glass without AR was expected in late 2026 or early 2027, while analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted a late 2027 to June 2025 shipping schedule.
In early 2026, a newsletter from May Gurman changed expectations for the glasses’ launch in late 2027.
Current speculation for Apple glasses is for a first version similar to Meta’s Ray-Ban partnership, i.e. glasses with audio, camera and smart features but no display for video feedback. A later version would introduce the display element.
More visions of Apple
Gurman’s newsletter also mentioned the Apple Vision Pro’s problems and touched on his future plans. This included the Apple Vision team working on a “completely revamped headset.”
Codenamed N224, it apparently involves engineers exploring four concepts for the headset. This includes offloading some internal components from the headset to another component, possibly such as a disk.
However, apparently burned by the concept of a fixed battery in the Apple Vision Pro, some senior Apple staff consider this to be a poor user experience. An all-in-one design is preferable, but doing so while being cheaper and lighter will be an engineering challenge.
There’s no guarantee it will launch, with the project apparently on “life support.” If it were to be released, Gurman speculates a late 2028 or early 2029 launch.
