After debuting in the US earlier this month, the new Timex Atelier GMT Première M1a is officially launching globally. The compact 38mm GMT with Swiss automatic movement is now available for purchase in India, Australia, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom and various other European countries directly from the Timex online store and authorized retailers.
Timex introduced the Atelier sub-brand last year as its most ambitious move into premium mechanical watches. The Marine M1a kicked things off and was an instant success, with its first batch selling out shortly after launch. The company followed up its inaugural success with the Atelier GMT24 M1a, a 40mm travel watch powered by a Swiss-made automatic GMT movement.
The new GMT Première M1a launched this month is a refinement of the Atelier GMT24 M1a formula rather than a complete redesign. The main update is the case size, which drops from 40mm to a more wearable 38mm diameter and should appeal to a wider range of wrists.
The watch maintains the same architectural case design, complete with a stainless steel skeletonized construction that exposes an IP gold-plated center case and matching gold screw-down crown.
However, there are some visual changes to the dial. Most notably, the inner 24-hour bezel has a new black and green look that separates day from night, while the orange GMT hand has been replaced by an arrowhead GMT hand. Finally, the lollipop seconds hand of the previous model gives way to a new thin needle hand with gold accents.
The glossy black enamel dial features gold-tone hands and applied hour markers and is protected by a double-curved sapphire crystal with a triple-layer anti-reflective coating.
Under the hood, the Atelier Première is powered by a Swiss-made Landeron 24 automatic GMT movement that operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour on 28 jewels. It offers a 40-hour power reserve and daily accuracy of +10/-15 seconds, while the exposed case back lets you check the movement in action.

Like its predecessor, the new Atelier GMT Première M1a is offered with an integrated stainless steel bracelet or NBR rubber strap.
