Starting with the US Grand Prix weekend on Friday, October 23, Apple TV will offer Formula 1 coverage in Dolby Atmos on supported devices. Here are the details.
“We combine exceptional images and audio to capture all the intensity of the sport”
Apple and Dolby Laboratories announced a new partnership to bring Dolby Atmos to Apple TV’s live Formula 1 coverage, starting with the United States Grand Prix weekend, which begins October 23 in Austin, Texas.
Apple says Dolby Atmos will join “Dolby Vision to deliver an even more immersive viewing experience,” putting “fans at the center of the action, surrounding them with the energy, drama and emotion of Formula 1.”
From team radio communications and race commentary to the roar of engines, on-track battles and pit lane intensity, Dolby Atmos brings to life the unmistakable sounds that define the sport.
Here’s Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and International Content, on the announcement:
“We’re always looking for new ways to make Formula 1 on Apple TV even better for fans. […] The sound of Formula 1 is such an important part of what makes the sport so exciting and, with Dolby Atmos joining Dolby Vision, fans can experience the energy and intensity of each Grand Prix in a completely new way. It’s another example of how we continue to innovate the viewing experience to bring fans closer to the action.”
It’s worth noting that Apple TV streaming rights for Formula 1 still only include the US, but don’t require an additional subscription beyond the Apple TV subscription.
Apple recently made free streaming of the Bahrain Grand Prix available in the US and also partnered with Netflix to bring Formula 1: Drive to Survive Season 8 to Apple TV in the US. As part of the same collaboration, the 2026 Canadian Grand Prix was streamed live on both Apple TV and Netflix in the United States.
Apple secured US streaming rights to Formula 1 in 2025 as part of a five-year deal starting with the 2026 season, and has previously indicated it wants to expand its F1 coverage into other markets.
Apple’s broader relationship with Formula 1 also includes “F1: The Movie,” which won the Oscar for best sound earlier this year and remains Apple’s biggest cinematic success to date.
Apple TV is available for $14.99 per month or as part of the Apple One bundle. It features hit TV shows and movies such as Ted Lasso, Severance, The Studio, The Morning Show, Shrinking and Silo.
