The EU Acquisition List website was updated today with details of a deal signed in June between Apple and Samplab, a Swiss startup that bills itself as “music production for the age of artificial intelligence.” Here are the details.

Apple’s streak of AI deals continues

Last week, the List of Acquisitions section of the EU DMA website was updated with details on Apple’s move to acquire Huxe, a startup founded by former NotebookLM engineers that specializes in generating personalized audio briefings and podcast-style content using artificial intelligence.

Today the list was updated once again, revealing another deal involving Apple and an AI-powered audio company.

Apple Inc. (“Apple”), through a subsidiary, will acquire certain assets of Samprab GmbH (“Samplab”) and will provide employment and hire certain employees of Samlabab. Samlabab develops audio editing tools. Apple (together with its group companies) designs, manufactures and markets smartphones, personal computers, tablets, wearable devices and accessories, and sells a variety of related services.

Following the deal, Samlabab’s website now redirects to Apple’s, while its social media accounts and YouTube channel appear to have been scrubbed of their previous posts and videos.

Previously, Samplab’s website described its “ultimate audio editor for musicians” as a tool that allowed creators to “edit audio files as if you were working with MIDI.” It also touted its ability to:

Detect and edit chords
They stay in key when you change them.
You can also export them as midi files.

Make all the samples sound good together
Samlabab matches their tempo and key.
Easily adapt chords, melodies and drums.

Granular separation of the stem
Separate stems in any audio and
freely edit individual notes.

While Apple hasn’t commented on the acquisition, it’s not hard to imagine Samlabab’s technology eventually making its way into Logic Pro or GarageBand, or even improving the audio editing capabilities of Final Cut Pro.

What do you think Apple will do with Samlabab technology? Let us know in the comments.
