WhatsApp-announces-four-new-features-to-make-group-chats-easier.jpg

In a blog post this week, WhatsApp confirmed that it’s rolling out four new features designed to make it easier to manage group chats and keep track of what’s happening in each of them. Here are the details.

Four new features coming to WhatsApp group chats

WhatsApp this week announced that the filter drawer, which appears when users swipe down on the conversation list, will now include a “Mentions & Replies” button along with other filtering options such as Groups, Favorites, Unread, and custom filters.

Once tapped, the chat list will only show “unread group conversations[s] where you have been mentioned or received a direct reply, including @all messages,” WhatsApp says.

Additionally, WhatsApp will now allow users to pin messages indefinitely in group chats, rather than choosing between 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days.

Another chat feature available in groups is the ability to “retroactively send recent messages to someone after they join a group by simply tapping their name in chat.” Previously, this was only possible when adding someone to a group, rather than after joining.

Finally, WhatsApp is rolling out group status sharing, which allows users to post updates that are only visible to members of a specific group. Other members can view, react to, and add their own statuses, which disappear after 24 hours.

As is often the case with WhatsApp updates, it may take some time before all four features become available to everyone. To read the complete announcement follow this link.
