During Apple’s quarterly earnings call, CEO John Ternus was asked repeatedly about the future of Siri AI. Here’s what he had to say about Apple’s plans to improve and expand Siri’s artificial intelligence.

John Ternus Says There’s ‘Much More’ Apple Plans to Do with Siri’s AI, and Hints at Agent Capabilities

Sometimes, when Apple launches a new feature or product, the company sees its work as finished, and whatever ships remains unchanged for too long. Many might characterize Siri this way, claiming that the assistant has gone years without significant improvements or updates.

But according to Apple CEO John Ternus, the newly deployed Siri artificial intelligence is just the beginning of what’s planned.

Yesterday, during Apple’s quarterly earnings call, Ternus provided a summary of Siri AI’s capabilities. He concluded: “We’re really excited to have introduced all these innovations and there’s so much more we plan to do.”

This signals that Apple doesn’t see Siri AI as a feature that can now be left alone for a while. Instead, as we already saw in iOS 27.2 last week, Apple is focused on improving it quickly.

What are these future plans? It appears that agent capabilities may be among them. Ternus said:

With Siri AI we really have the kind of Siri we’ve always wanted. Today it’s primarily request-based, but as we said at WWDC, it’s built on a modern, orchestrator-driven architecture that gives us real room to expand capabilities over time.

Regarding agent capabilities, we believe these are promising tools for users. We just want to make sure users are aware of what they have access to. We want to make sure this is done in a way that protects your security and privacy. So, you know, we’re pushing that a lot with Siri AI, but we’re also very encouraged that Apple devices, we think, are the best places to use all forms of AI.

Significantly, Ternus says Siri is “mostly request-based today” and mentions “room to expand capabilities” before moving on to mention the agent’s features. It appears that Apple is already, behind the scenes, imagining and working towards a version of Siri that won’t need to be “primarily request-based.”

Finally, later in the call, when discussing services growth opportunities, including the potential launch of new services, Ternus says, “We think intelligence will be another opportunity as well.” This refers to an earlier discussion about Apple’s intention to charge a fee for extended usage limits on some Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features. The idea is that as Siri evolves and improves, Apple will have the opportunity to charge for certain features.
