Apple is rumored to have a big redesign coming to iPhone Pro models next year, and according to a new leak, it may involve the loss of the Action button.
The action button will reportedly be dropped from the iPhone Pro next year for the 20th anniversary redesign
2027 marks the 20th anniversary of the iPhone, and all signs point to Apple having something special planned. Similar to the iPhone X’s 10th anniversary debut in 2017, Apple may introduce a bold new iPhone design next year.
The new iPhone Pro models are said to have quad-curved displays that wrap around the edges for a visually bezel-free look. The screen size is also expected to increase.
Today, a new post from leaker Instant Digital on Weibo claims that this new design will also incur a leak.
According to the post, the Action button will be removed from next year’s iPhone Pro models. However, the devices will retain a camera control button, similar to the iPhone Duo.
However, the leaker claims that the functionality of the Action button will not be lost entirely. Instead, it says Camera Control will continue to launch the Camera app with a standard press, but a long press will offer action button-like functionality.
When the iPhone Duo released the Action button, some users expressed disappointment at the loss of the button’s versatility. Our own Chance Miller, for example, said he would gladly give up control of the camera to keep the Action button.
It appears that Apple plans to integrate the two, a scheme that will likely apply to the next-generation iPhone Duo and other future models as well.
