“It might ruin instant ramen”
Dubbed by Apple TV as its new “culinary adventure” show, ‘Awkwafina: The Unlikely Cook’ is now streaming on the platform.
Starring and executive produced by Emmy-winning actress and comedian Nora Lum, aka Awkwafina (The Farewell), the show will run for eight episodes through December 18 and feature “acclaimed chefs, restaurateurs and her signature family.”
Here’s the synopsis for Apple TV’s “Awkwafina: The Unlikely Cook”:
In the series, Nora embarks on a deeply personal journey across the country as she explores contemporary Asian-American cuisine, starting with her family’s extraordinary heritage. Nora’s family ran Lum’s, the iconic Cantonese restaurant in Flushing, New York, and the first in a now-thriving Chinatown. But despite having grown up in the family business, she doesn’t know how to cook. At all. It could ruin an instant ramen. (…) With the help of acclaimed chefs, restaurateurs and his colorful family, he travels the country to explore what it takes to master Asian food in the kitchen and whether he will ultimately reinvent Lum’s legacy for today.
“Awkwafina: The Unly Cook” joins Apple TV’s growing catalog of food-focused shows, including “Omnivore” and “Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars.” It also marks the second collaboration between Apple TV and production company Twofour, following the Emmy-nominated travel series “The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy.”
