The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake is running on Ultrawide on PC via static recompilation.

The first footage of a recomp of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake has been published on X/Twitter, showing the new Nintendo Switch 2 game running on an Ultrawide monitor.

A few days after the official release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake for Nintendo Switch 2 the game is not only playable via emulation on PC, but dedicated static recompilation attempts have already appeared. The most promising one so far shows the game running on an Ultrawide monitor with only minor graphical issues, albeit with rather stringent performance requirements.

Specifically, the game is shown running at 60 FPS… but it also consumes 18.6 GB of VRAM capacity from an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090. Ouch!

Despite the OP’s claims that this means, among other things, that “hardware exclusivity is over” and that this news means “it’s over for Nintendo”, I don’t think most people are interested in playing Ocarina of time Remake they’ll be interested in paying over $2000 for their hardware when Nintendo can already get you a Nintendo Switch 2 and a legal copy for under $600.

While I’m at it, I feel the need to write a little editorial here, as a true fan of emulation and game preservation efforts.

Considerations like these are not only terribly misinformed (major Nintendo games have been fully playable on PC at launch for about Super Mario Galaxy 2released in May 2010,) but show a childish and petty malice. I strongly support emulation, but shameless piracy of modern games only hurts the creators of the media you supposedly love.

Obviously it doesn’t hurt them enough to stop Nintendo consoles and exclusives from going gangbusters, but it’s an embarrassing attitude that delegitimizes the efforts of true gaming preservers. For the love of God, buy your games if you want to see more like them.
