Macs have become increasingly affordable in recent years. Cheaper starting points, more memory and storage per dollar, and the introduction of the MacBook Neo. For the first time, Apple had started to become one of the best values on the market.
Unfortunately, Apple just dramatically increased its prices due to the ongoing memory shortage. Macs aren’t as attractive as they were a few months ago, that said, there are still some decent deals out there – and if you need a new computer, I’d still say that today’s Macs are good value compared to the rest of the computing market.
MacBook Air
Until the launch of the MacBook Neo, the MacBook Air was the entry point into Apple’s laptop lineup. While the MacBook Neo makes its value proposition slightly questionable, I’d still say the MacBook Air is a great laptop if you want a better experience without needing anything premium.
MagSafe, P3 color display, Center Stage on the webcam and longer battery life are just some of the highlights of the MacBook Air. It also comes with a 15-inch variant, unlike the MacBook Neo which only offers 13 inches.

MacBook Neo
This product doesn’t need a long explanation: MacBook Neo is Apple’s first affordable MacBook, available for just $699.
It has some compromises compared to the aforementioned MacBook Air, but it’s still incredibly good for the price. The build quality, display clarity, and macOS experience are essentially uncompromising. Sure, you have to deal with a slower A18 Pro chip (though believe me, it’s no different), lesser ports, and 8GB of memory, but it’s perfectly reasonable for the price. It also comes in fun colors like Citrus, Blush, and Indigo.
There are currently no notable retail discounts on MacBook Neos, although Apple is offering them refurbished at $100-120 off the retail price. Refurbished Apple offers the same 1-year warranty and a like-new experience, with all major components replaced. You will not find any scratches or deterioration of the battery.
MacBookPro
At the top of the range is the MacBook Pro. You get the best of the best, although there’s one important caveat. Apple is reportedly redesigning high-end variants of the MacBook Pro later this year with OLED, touchscreens, and thinner designs.
This redesign will only debut with the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips though, so if you’re someone who buys the base model with the M5 chip, you’re still able to buy a new MacBook today. The same goes if you don’t care about the redesign at all, as the M5 Pro and M5 Max are still incredible new chips.
