Apple has added another set of movies to watch for free with an Apple TV subscription, although it hasn’t yet removed the entire previous set.
It is known that Apple has not purchased the library of titles of any broadcaster or streamer, but it has occasionally purchased films from the beginning. Now, after a batch of titles in August, Apple TV has added even more, all included in its subscription.
Unless you purchase an entire library, for historical reasons related to the distribution of films throughout the world, it is extraordinarily complex to acquire the rights to individual titles. Apple hasn’t even secured global rights to all of its new titles, meaning different films are available in different countries.
In the US, Apple has now added:
- 28 days later
- American gangster
- Black Hawk Down
- Blood diamond
- Fallen
- Fury
- The girl with the dragon tattoo
- Go far
- Good hunting will
- Insomnia
- Jurassic world
- Taxi driver
- Tropical thunder
In the UK, for example, the newly added titles are:
- Godzilla
- Start
- Jurassic world
- The Martian
- The social network
- Spider-Man: Far From Home
- The city
- War of the Worlds (2005 version)
This is a significant expansion for the UK, which in August saw just 6 films added to the US’s 19.
While at least most of August’s additions appear to still be available in the US, don’t expect any of them to last. They will only be acquired for a specific period, and Apple hasn’t said what that period is.
Given that the UK, at least, has already lost some titles, if there’s a film you want to see, you should watch it now.
Please note that this only applies to newly added classic films. For everything Apple TV has made on its own, or acquired like the Oscar-winning “CODA,” you can reasonably expect the movies to stick around for years.
Then lately Apple TV has received a lot of attention and awards for its television dramas and comedies. But he continues to produce films, such as “CODA” writer/director Sian Heder’s next film, “Being Heumann.”
