According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, iPhone Duo buyers who purchase their device at an Apple Store in the United States will get a nice surprise when they turn it on for the first time. Here are the details.
Nice surprise in store for shoppers in store
When Apple launches the iPhone Duo on October 23, some customers who purchase the device at an Apple Store in the United States will be able to customize the initial setup screen with their name.
According to Gurman, “Apple stores will have a system to customize device startup,” allowing the iPhone Duo to display a greeting containing their name when it turns on for the first time. Gurman says the feature will be exclusive to the iPhone Duo and will support both English and Spanish.
It’s unclear how Apple will implement the feature or whether it will rely on Presto, the system that Apple Stores already use to wirelessly update iPhones without removing them from the box.
First reported by Gurman in 2023, Presto allows Apple employees to turn on an iPhone, install software updates, and turn it off again, all while the device remains sealed in its box.
Returning to the iPhone Duo, it will be available for pre-order starting from Friday 16 October, with deliveries and in-store availability starting from 23 October.
Apple recently announced that customers can prepare for iPhone Duo pre-orders starting October 12, and you can read more about it here.
