Apple’s “Welcome Home” ads revealed Apple HomeView, the updated Apple TV 4K, and the HomePod mini 2. Your hosts discuss the new products and what they will mean for Apple’s smart home strategy.
Apple HomeView is the central intelligent hub of your Apple Home. It will display photos, music playing, and host information shared by up to six users’ iPhones.
The price is reasonable: $299, and homeowners discuss exactly where they might fit in their home. Wesley imagines they could easily become the new HomePod and fit into various corners of the house.
The Apple TV 4K is an expensive, iterative upgrade, but the surround sound from four HomePods is reason enough to upgrade one of your hosts. It’s good to know it’s no longer the four-year-old model.
The announcement that could have the biggest impact on Apple’s smart home strategy is the Apple Home Collection. Third-party accessory makers can choose to meet Apple’s strict design and feature guidelines for inclusion in this collection, which currently only hosts LG and Schneider.
