Apple added a beta smart assistant to Pages, Keynote and Numbers on Thursday, but only Apple Creator Studio subscribers get it.
On Thursday, Apple updated its trio of iWork apps: the Pages word processor, the Keynote presentation app, and the Numbers spreadsheet app. The update added support for iPhone Duo, which will be available to customers starting October 23.
According to Apple, there is also a new interchange format (.keyx). Since the format is open, it should make it easier to edit Keynote files in other apps.
The brunt of the update was reserved for Apple Intelligence features. These features are paywalled behind Apple Creator Studio, Apple’s creative software subscription package.
All three apps will receive a new Intelligent Assistant beta. To use it, you will need to have your device set to American English and updated to iOS 27 or later.
AS 9to5Mac note, this assistant appears to be separate from Siri AI. Here’s what it’s capable of, according to Apple:
Pages
- Start a first draft, then edit, organize, and improve your writing with an assistant who understands your document
- Get guidance on where to start, learn how to use advanced features, or try a tip to see what’s possible
- Draw a section, adjust the tone, or generate images and shapes using natural language
- Look for up-to-date information on a topic and incorporate it into your document
Keynote
- Build your story, add animations, and refine your slides with an assistant who understands your presentation
- Get guidance on where to start, learn how to use advanced features, or try a tip to see what’s possible
- Generate slides, presenter notes, images and shapes using natural language
- Look for up-to-date information on a topic and incorporate it into your slides
Numbers
- Discover insights, create complex formulas, and visualize your data with an assistant that understands your spreadsheet
- Get guidance on where to start, learn how to use advanced features, or try a tip to see what’s possible
- Generate tables, get chart suggestions, and get help with formulas using natural language
- Look for up-to-date information on a topic and incorporate it into your spreadsheet
Apple released the updates Thursday afternoon. Shortly after release, Apple pulled all three apps from both the iOS and Mac App Store. It is unknown whether this is a bug or an intentional error.
