iOS 27.2 arrives next week and brings two new features for Apple TV subscribers. Here’s the news.
No. 1: Profiles arrive on iPhone and iPad and with new characters
Apple TV is currently the only major streaming service that doesn’t offer user profiles on iPhone and iPad. But things are about to change with iOS and iPadOS 27.2.
Profiles already exist in tvOS for viewing Apple TV content on the big screen, but they are now coming to other Apple platforms as well.
When you create user profiles on one platform, they automatically sync with others, allowing you to keep playback history, queues and recommendations all personalized to each viewer. And if you set up a profile for your child, they’ll only see age-appropriate Apple TV content.
In addition to expanding profiles across multiple platforms, Apple has added a variety of new profile picture options in iOS 27.2. Characters from Apple TV children’s series like The Snoopy Show, Frog and Toad, and Stillwater are all now available.
#2: Sign language support
Apple TV is taking accessibility a step further beyond subtitle options by adding official sign language support on select movies and shows.
With iOS 27.2, users can optionally enable American Sign Language (ASL) or British Sign Language (BSL).
You’ll find the option to enable sign language in the Settings app under Apps ⇾ TV ⇾ Sign Language. It’s unknown how many Apple TV titles will initially support sign language, but it’s great to see the functionality added.
