OLED displays are still planned for the iMac and MacBook Air, but don’t expect either update to arrive in the near future.
Apple’s special “Pro and Tell” event is expected to feature, among other launches, the OLED upgrade to the MacBook Pro. However, Apple’s use of OLED won’t stop there, as it still plans to use it on other, less Pro models.
According to Mark Gurman in Sunday’s “Power On” newsletter BloombergApple is currently testing new versions of the MacBook Air and iMac. Those prototypes are claimed to include OLED displays.
However, even though testing is ongoing, that doesn’t mean there will be a launch of those particular models anytime soon. Gurman says an updated non-OLED iMac will arrive in the next few days, while a new non-OLED MacBook Air will appear in early 2027.
Planned but far from launch
There have been repeated rumors of an OLED upgrade for both lines. However, these rumors never hinted that an update was imminent for either model.
In December 2025, a supply chain report stated that a refresh of the 24-inch iMac with OLED would arrive in 2027. In August 2026, it was said that the OLED iMac would arrive in 2029.
For the MacBook Air, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in March 2026 that it would be later than expected. While previous reports said a launch would be possible in 2027 or 2028, Kuo stressed that it would happen in 2029.
It’s not the only rumored OLED Mac model. In September 2026, it was stated that an OLED MacBook model would be introduced in 2029 to bridge the gap between the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.
