There are no twists and turns for M. Nigh Shyamalan’s day in court, as the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld its ruling that Apple TV’s “Servant” series did not copy a film titled “The Truth About Emanuel.”

A lawsuit filed by director Francesca Gregorini in January 2020 accused the creators of Servant of having plagiarized his film. The case was initially dismissed, but was then brought back to trial by the jury, which ruled in Apple’s favor.

Gregorini appealed the decision, but according to a report from the Reutersthe 9th Circuit Court of Appeals rejected the appeal. While both The truth about Emanuele AND Servant they are both about a mother who mourns the death of her son and becomes attached to a doll, this is where the similarities end.

The jury established this after having seen both the film and the first three episodes of the Apple TV series. M. Night Shyamalan said during court before the original sentencing that there was “clearly, 100% a misunderstanding.”

Servant it aired its final season in March 2023, but the entire series is still available to watch on Apple TV. If you have yet to watch the thrilling series, now is the perfect time to pick it up right before Halloween.
