At the DevDay developer conference on Tuesday, OpenAI announced a new way to use a ChatGPT subscription. Plus and Pro users can sign in to participating apps with their ChatGPT account and allow those apps to make AI requests on their plan. OpenAI lists 16 partners, including Devin, Notion, Vercel, T3, OpenClaw and Cognition’s Dactyl. The release notes describe it as “a limited preview with participating integrations.” No API key is needed.
What the app sees and what it uses
According to OpenAI, signing in shares your name, email address, and profile picture with the app. The connection does not provide your conversations, memories, or an API key, and any other permissions are required separately. Requests from the app count towards ChatGPT Work and Codex usage included in your plan. “How quickly you use included usage depends on the app and the tasks you perform,” OpenAI’s help page says. Settings show how much an app was used, but not what actions caused it.
Setting a weekly limit per app
In Settings & Usage, you can restrict each connected app. The limit is weekly and establishes the amount of total weekly usage that the app can consume. It adds no usage. Once you reach your plan limit, apps can also draw on purchased credits, but only if you have explicitly allowed it and the app limit is set to 100%. This option is disabled by default. OpenAI recommends checking automatic credit purchases first, as continued use may result in charges and “you may not receive a separate alert when the included usage limit is reached.”
Going out is not enough
Logging out of the app only ends your session there. The app remains connected to ChatGPT and can continue using your plan. To remove it, go to Settings, Security and log in to ChatGPT and open the Log in with ChatGPT entry under Login Connections. The entry also appeared on a free account in Germany on Wednesday. Disconnecting does not reset usage already counted and does not delete data already received by the app. For this, you need to contact the app provider. Signing in with Google works similarly, where deleting an app doesn’t revoke its access.
