Apple has released estimated service costs for its new HomeView smart home display, including how much customers can expect to pay with and without AppleCare coverage. Here are the details.
Out-of-warranty repairs could cost almost as much as a new unit
Apple today introduced HomeView, a 7-inch smart display currently available for pre-order, with shipping starting November 13th.
Users can choose between two models: Apple HomeView and Apple HomeView (wall-mounted). Both cost $299, but the wall-mounted model doesn’t come with a wall mount or power supply. Those need to be purchased separately.
The standard HomeView, meanwhile, connects to a base with a more powerful built-in speaker system.
Following the announcement, Apple has now released service and repair costs for devices, with and without AppleCare coverage.
According to Apple, the estimated service cost for both models is $279, listed under a single category: “Other Damage.” No details are currently available for specific issues, such as a cracked screen or faulty speaker on the standard model, suggesting that Apple may be replacing entire units rather than repairing individual components.
Likewise, for units covered by AppleCare, the accidental damage service fee is currently listed at $39, regardless of whether the device is the standard or wall-mounted model or the type of accidental damage. For AppleCare+ subscribers, HomeView coverage is available for $2.49 per month or $24.99 per year.
It’s worth noting that Apple hasn’t confirmed whether these fees cover replacing the entire unit or repairing individual components.
We’ll keep an eye out for any updates to Apple’s service and repair pricing, including if the company adds more specific repair categories or rates.
