ⓘ Game Factory
Revealed during the IGN Fall Fan Fest on October 14, the game takes players back to Guntama, the fictional Japanese region featured in the original JDM (Japanese Drift Master). This time, however, the familiar streets have been transformed into a supernatural playground, populated by creatures that probably won’t respect traffic rules.
Players will encounter enemies ranging from Oni and tree spirits to enormous centipedes, with a Demon King waiting somewhere along the way. Survival involves much more than keeping both hands on the wheel. The developers promise more accessible, arcade-style handling, along with a new mechanic called Nitro-Drift, which rewards drifting with speed boosts. Vehicle upgrades and supernatural abilities should provide additional ways to deal with the local wildlife.
The redesigned open world will also feature a single-player campaign told through hand-drawn manga sequences and dialogue. Multiplayer is planned, although the developers have yet to reveal how it will work.
JDM: Gaming Factory’s Ph4ntom Driver is in development for PC and already has a Steam page, but no release date has been announced. One thing’s for sure: speeding tickets are the least of your worries when a giant demon is waiting around the corner.
