LunaReverse brings a supernatural tale of revenge to Nintendo Switch and Steam

Aniplex and Cybird have announced LunaReverse, a new dark fantasy visual novel that follows a former sorceress whose quest for revenge leads her down a decidedly sinister path. Developed for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam, the game combines supernatural themes, mysterious characters and artwork by Japanese illustrator Ugonba. A worldwide release is planned, with English among the supported languages, although neither a launch date nor a price have been announced.

Revenge stories rarely end well, especially when magic and demons are involved. Aniplex and Cybird’s just announced LunaReverse seems determined to explore that particular problem, following a former sorceress whose quest for revenge turns her into a demon.

The upcoming dark fantasy visual novel marks the first collaboration between Aniplex and Cybird, the latter known for its Ikemen Series of games focused on romance. However, LunaReverse seems to be taking a decidedly darker direction.

The official teaser artwork shows a silver-haired woman under a huge full moon, accompanied by a mysterious, demon-like man reaching out towards her. Tarot cards float around the couple, suggesting that fate, and perhaps some questionable decisions, will play a major role in the story.

The project is directed and produced by Hiroto Kuramasu while the screenplay is written by Satomi Nakayama, known for games such as Virche Evermore: Salvation Errorand the character of Ichiha C-Garden. Character design is handled by illustrator Ugonba, whose previous work includes Memories of Fragaria by Sanrio project.

According to the game’s official website, LunaReverse is in development for Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite and PC via Steam. The single-player title will support Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese, with a worldwide release expected.

Aniplex has released an official teaser trailer, see below, but gameplay details, pricing, and release date remain under wraps. So far, the visuals and the premise do most of the talking, and neither suggests that a conventional happy ending should be expected.
