New StandBy faces revealed for iPhone Duo

The next iPhone Duo has more features than Apple revealed, including a whole host of faces for StandBy mode. Here’s what to look for, if any.

Even though pre-orders for the iPhone Duo don’t start until October 16th and the Xcode betas don’t show everything to developers yet, there are plenty of new options coming to iOS 27 for this device.

Developer pdfu reports that the Xcode 27.1 simulator is missing Rushmore, an app used to display the new StandBy faces. But despite that, they managed to get some of the new faces racing.

These working ones are variations of the familiar clock and calendar faces used in the iPhone’s current StandBy mode. But the code references describe many other options.

Just because you reference something in your code, it doesn’t necessarily mean it will start immediately. But those code references show five other faces:

• Home Camera: Up to nine camera views
• Home module
• Flow
• Fade
• Snoopy

There are no details for Home Modular, Flow or Fade. But Flow’s code also includes the term ResponsiveArt, which suggests that it will at least be an animated face.

Face editor

The iPhone Duo will also feature a revised editor for customizing these StandBy faces. It’s very similar to the one that exists on the iPhone and is perhaps more similar to the Apple Watch’s watch face editor.

Users can swipe left and right to adjust, for example, the style of an analog clock, its numbers, light mode and dark mode, as well as the color of the dial and hands.

Some of these clock faces even have room for two widgets. Then others are digital rather than analog and pdfu found code references for five layouts:

It is assumed that all but the StandBy one can actually be intended for when the iPhone is opened like a book.
