In a support document, it is clarified that the update introduces two general changes. Both vague in nature, Sony claims that firmware 1.1.2 has improved the security features of the system software. Additionally, the new firmware is said to improve “other features”, without offering further explanation.
At the same time, Sony also updated the WH-CH730N with the new firmware. Another September release, the WH-CH730N is even cheaper than the WH-1000XM4C (curr. $178 on Amazon). Likewise, Sony claims that firmware 1.0.4 only improves “operational stability.” See our WH-1000XM4C launch article for more details on the cheapest pair in Sony’s WH-1000X series.
