The low supply of Xbox consoles in many parts of the world is not a new phenomenon. However, circumstances have not improved, with systems even poorer in Europe and Latin America. When the hardware is available, some retailers list prices for the Xbox Series The drought calls into question whether Microsoft’s return to exclusive games can succeed.
Windows Central’s Jez Corden interviewed readers outside of “traditional English markets” about the availability of the Xbox console. Responses confirm that Xbox Series X|S has disappeared in multiple regions. MondoXbox reports that units have been missing in Spain for months. He also regrets that events such as FanFest are no longer held in the country.
The discussion spread to the ResetEra forums, where European gamers cited local Xbox Series X prices. According to Firmus_Anguis, only one Swedish retailer is selling the system, and for a shocking amount. The Microsoft store advertises the sold-out 1TB hard drive model for 7,770 SEK, which converts to $770 USD. However, the poster reveals that the seller is asking for the equivalent of $1,600.
After the price increase on August 1st, the recommended price of the same console in the other part of the EU increased from €599.99 to €799.99. Yet Wandering Through shared that the largest merchant in their country wants 1,325.40 euros.
Microsoft’s gaming presence has also declined dramatically in Latin America. On social media, Portuga says the company has “abandoned Brazil in terms of hardware.” Note that this contrasts sharply with the start of the current generation, when availability was widespread.
Shoppers in the United States saw fewer stores dedicating shelf space to Xbox. That said, Series X prices are less inflated and stock levels are less dire at major retailers, including Amazon and Best Buy.
