Casio has dropped three new Baby-G watches into its U.S. store; all three are basically BA-110s with a glossy layer.
The BA110MC-2A is dark blue, the BA110MC-6A lilac and the BA110MC-7A white. Each costs $145. Casio’s copy promises “from Y2K fashion to Y3K finesse.” In practice this means shiny resin instead of the usual matte, with metal markers surrounding the dial.
The BA-110 has the same crowded analog-digital face that Casio built the GA-110 around, shrunk to fit. This case measures 46.3 x 43.4 x 15.8mm and weighs 45g. A GA-110-1A measures 55 x 51.2 x 16.9 mm and 72 g. This means 27g less watch and the layout survives the journey intact. The band fits wrists from 125 to 180 mm.
There is a small quirk in the spec sheet. The minute hand moves every 20 seconds; takes three steps a minute instead of once. It’s a little thing you notice on day one and forget by day three.
The rest is a simple list of Casio specs. Shock resistance, water resistance up to 100 meters, world time in 29 time zones, 1/100-second stopwatch, 24-hour countdown timer, five alarms, full automatic calendar up to 2099, and Neobrite on the hands. The LED is yellow and maintains a residual light. The accuracy is plus or minus 30 seconds per month.
What $145 doesn’t get you is sapphire or solar. The glass is mineral and two SR726W cells keep the watch running for about two years. At this price Casio spent the money on the finish, nothing else.
