The HP OmniBook 3 with Snapdragon X was already a more affordable Windows alternative to the MacBook Neo, starting at $599.99. Best Buy has now cut $200 from all configurations, bringing the base model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage to $399.99. That’s $300 less than the MacBook Neo, which starts at $699.99 with the same amount of RAM and storage.
That said, the 8GB RAM is probably more of a compromise than the Neo’s, as Windows can be more memory hungry than macOS. For smoother multitasking, we recommend upgrading to the 16GB model, which is now discounted to $499.99. The configuration with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage also comes in at $599.99, still $100 less than the base Neo.
The Snapdragon X processor won’t win any performance benchmarks, but it should be sufficient for everyday tasks and web browsing. HP rates the OmniBook 3 for up to 41 hours and 45 minutes of battery life, meaning it should get you through a school or work day of light use without needing to recharge. Plus, it weighs 3.13 pounds and comes with a lightweight GaN charger, making it easy to carry to work or school.
Compared to other affordable Windows laptops like the $699.99 Dell XPS 13, the OmniBook 3 may feel a bit cheaper since it’s made mostly of plastic. However, it offers some advantages. First, it comes with an OLED display for richer colors and brilliant contrast. HP also offers numerous ports, including USB-C, USB-A, HDMI, and a headphone jack.

My love for gadgets started back in high school when I successfully updated my Samsung Galaxy S III mini from Android 4.1.1 to Android 5.0 using a custom ROM I found online. I now have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and have spent the last seven years building PCs for customers and writing news, product reviews, and buying guides for PC hardware, gaming, and consumer electronics. Before joining Notebookcheck, I was a business writer at Game Rant and a junior buying guides editor at MakeUseOf.
