ⓘ Garmin
While the company moved the firmware to system software 27.18 a few days later, Beta 28.02 is the first major beta revision in three months. Like the previous Beta version 27.15, Beta version 28.02 focuses on fixing bugs rather than adding new features. To this end, the new update contains nine general changes compared to the 27.18 system software.
For example, navigation calculations should return to full functionality after updating to Beta 28.02. Additionally, the Garmin Coach widget should always redisplay data, which was apparently an issue with older firmware. Additionally, Beta 28.02 should respect GPS settings even when switching between the outdoor and indoor versions of the same activity.
Garmin is offering its new beta update on a “check for updates” basis only. Therefore, you need to manually download the update by going to the main menu under Settings, System and Software Update before selecting “Check for updates”.
At this stage, Garmin has offered no indication as to when development of v28.xx will reach stable state. Development of the V27.xx beta was relatively short-lived, however, with only three updates before a stable transition. The full changelog between system software 27.18 and beta 28.02 is as follows:
- Fixed a device validation issue that sometimes occurred when downloading TopoActive maps.
- Fixed an issue where HRM 200/600 would not work during golf activities.
- Fixed an issue where navigation calculation would sometimes fail.
- Fixed an issue where new clubs added to the Garmin Golf app were not visible in the device’s club list.
- Fixed an issue where rangefinders would sometimes display stale data.
- Fixed an issue where the calendar widget was sometimes slow to load.
- Fixed an issue where the Garmin Coach widget would sometimes not display data.
- Fixed an issue where the GPS setting for an outdoor activity was disabled after selecting the indoor version of the activity.
- Fixed stability issues when downloading maps on the map manager app.
