iOS 27.2 will launch soon for all users, but Apple continues to introduce new updates with each beta release. Here are three changes added to iOS 27.2 this week.
#1: Message settings for the new “Tips” feature.
The Messages app adds a “Suggestions” feature in iOS 27.2 that was originally intended for iOS 27.0, but was ultimately pulled from the summer beta.
Suggestions allow you to quickly and conveniently take action on a message you receive. For example, creating a new calendar event or reminder based on the message content.
In iOS 27.2 beta 4, Apple added a new option to enable or disable different types of suggestions. Inside Settings ⇾ Apps ⇾ Messages ⇾ Suggested Actions, you’ll now find toggles for five types of suggestions:
- Add to calendar
- Add to reminders
- Add to notes
- Show in Maps
- Flights and packages
#2: New Home app features for smart locks
It’s been a big week for Apple Home announcements. Joining HomeView, the new Apple TV 4K, HomePod mini 2, and the Apple Home collection, the iOS 27.2 beta has added a couple of Home app features for smart locks.
As discovered by leaker pdfu, “Lock after lock” is a new setting in the Home app when you have a compatible smart lock. It allows you to choose how quickly your door should close automatically after being closed.
Likewise, pdfu has found a new “Door left open” notification option. It allows you to program automatic alerts to alert you if a door has been left open. You can choose between “Off” or after 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes.
#3: New Apple Music icon and design updates
Apple Music introduced some unexpected design changes in iOS 27.2 beta 4, including a new app icon, a changed accent color, and updated widgets.
Essentially, Apple has eliminated the iconic red color from its Music app branding. Now, app icons are plain black and white, and even widgets lose their red backgrounds in favor of black.
Additionally, the Music app tab bar now uses a blue color for the currently active tab—it was previously red.
So far the online reception to these changes seems extremely negative. It will be interesting to see if Apple reverses any of these design updates moving forward. Although they clearly appear to be part of a larger rebranding effort for Apple Music.
