Samsung this week launched an ad campaign mocking the display problems some people have had with the iPhone Duo.

In an Instagram post on its Canadian account, Samsung shared several images showing a bright line where the ‌iPhone Duo‌ models experienced display issues.

There are three images, each with different text:

  • Bending is nothing new to us
  • Folding. We know a thing or eight.
  • Upgrade to Galaxy Z Fold8

A Samsung spokesperson said it’s a “playful new campaign” that taps into the conversation about “the growing rivalry in foldables and how experience plays into the category.”

The first Galaxy foldable smartphone came out in September 2019, and the company introduced its eighth-generation Galaxy Z Fold8 three months before the ‌iPhone Duo‌ debuted.

Shortly after the launch of the ‌iPhone Duo‌, some customers experienced problems with the hinges that caused cracks in the internal display. Affected devices appear to break in the same place, with a bright line appearing on the OLED screen.

Apple said it is aware of the issue and that only a limited number of ‌iPhone Duo‌ units have an issue. Customers who have a faulty device will soon see the issue, and users with a broken ‌iPhone Duo‌ should contact Apple for a replacement.

The response to the iPhone Duo from early adopters has been incredibly positive, and we’re seeing interesting things from developers who are rapidly updating their apps to take advantage of its unique format. We are aware of an issue affecting the internal display on a limited number of iPhone Duo units. If users experience problems with the iPhone Duo display, they should contact AppleCare for a replacement.

The ‌iPhone Duo‌ is on backorder through January for online orders, although Apple has sporadically had some in-store inventory available. There appear to be no supply issues for the Galaxy Z Fold8, with many colors and capacities shipping on November 3.

Apple’s ‌iPhone Duo‌ is priced starting at $1,999 for 256GB of storage, while Samsung charges $1,899 for the same capacity.
