This is because Yapa Phone is not connected to a landline, but to the home Wi-Fi network. Parents then set up the device via a smartphone app, which also allows them to specify which contacts or phone numbers can be reached. The app also allows you to limit the times when Yapa can be used, so as not to interfere, for example, with children’s sleep or study time.
Prices and availability
The Yapa Phone is currently only available in the UK, with a European Union launch expected to follow “soon”. The gadget costs £99.99 ($132). Calls between multiple Yapa phones are possible without a subscription, but calling conventional phone numbers requires a subscription that costs £9.99 ($13) a month.
