Tesla plans to stop Cybertruck production at its Gigafactory in Texas around mid-2027 to expand Cybercab production, CEO Elon Musk said on

Musk has not said whether Tesla will move production of the Cybertruck to another factory or stop the recall altogether. Tesla also did not provide further details on the planned changes.

The Cybertruck was launched in 2023 as a futuristic challenger to pickup trucks from established automakers like Ford. Since then, it has struggled to maintain interest and has faced numerous recalls and quality control issues, while Tesla has repeatedly revised its prices.

Tesla does not disclose sales of the Cybertruck separately, grouping the pickup with the Model S and Model X in the “Other Vehicles” category. Deliveries of these three models totaled 8,295 units worldwide in the third quarter of 2026, out of 486,532 vehicles delivered overall. According to third-party estimates, Tesla delivered 4,323 Cybertrucks in the United States during the same period.

Meanwhile, the Cybercab has become the centerpiece of Tesla’s plans for the future. The company plans to expand its robotaxi network and make the vehicle its flagship model for autonomous transportation.

Moving production capacity to the Texas plant would allow Tesla to increase Cybercab production in pursuit of that strategy. However, Musk’s announcement leaves the future of Cybertruck production unclear, particularly whether the pickup will continue to be produced elsewhere.
