Siri’s new artificial intelligence is the “magic” of HomeView, according to Apple executives, but part of that is due to the small number of users expected to interact with it.
HomeView is Apple’s new $299 home hub device, and it’s long been rumored to be ready but waiting for Siri artificial intelligence. Now that both this and the hardware are available, Apple has highlighted how important Siri’s AI is.
“With the magic of Siri AI, [HomeView] they come together in a way that we’ve never been able to offer before,” said Kaiann Drance, vice president of home product marketing The limit in a new interview.
That “magic” is partly about how Siri’s AI has a more conversational understanding of how people speak. Lilian Rincon, Apple’s vice president of product marketing for artificial intelligence, said it’s “awesome because you can just ask it to change the temperature on your thermostat in a very natural way.”
“As Siri’s AI capabilities continue to evolve, the home experience is well suited to be able to interact in this natural way,” he continued. “Because now it can be my mother-in-law or Gen Z who is in college, they can both use it the way they naturally speak and get what they want.”
Another part of Siri’s AI that is important but doesn’t get enough recognition is that it doesn’t talk for the sake of it. Siri AI might be more conversational, but it’s there to do a job for you.
“A lot of these caregivers are always asking questions because they want more information,” Rincon continued. “For us, it’s not about that. We’re there to get it done, take an action for you, show you what you need to do and then get out of the way.”
